Robert Stanley Kubiak

March 11, 1921 – June 5, 2004

Robert Kubiak, 83, of Kenilworth Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away following an illness at 6:40 p.m. Saturday, June 5, in Regency Place of South Bend. He was born on March 11, 1921, in Niles, Mich., to Casimir and Helen Kubiak.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert Kubiak Jr.; a sister, Loretta Penkala; and by a brother, Richard Kubiak.

Robert is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elsie Kubiak; a daughter, Patricia (James) Hunt of Michigan City, Ind.; three grandchildren, Christine (Ken) Hanft, Karin Hunt of Michigan City and Douglas (Tricia) Hunt of Portage, Mich.; three great-grandchildren, Brittney Hunt, Drew and Lucas Hanft; and by a sister, Lorraine Klose of Niles. He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Gerry Finchum of Williamsburg, Va.; and by three step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren.

Robert retired in 1983 from Wheelabrator Corporation. He also did ceramic tile work for many years. He was a World War II veteran, having served for six years in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church and VFW Post #624. He served as a quarter master.

Robert was an avid sports fan. He loved Notre Dame and the Cubs. He also had a great interest in aviation.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to services. Burial to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
