Clement H. Downey

April 15, 1920 - June 18, 1993

NEW CARLISLE Clement Hughes Downey, 73, of 52018 Hamilton Trail, died at 8:04 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Downey retired in 1975 from the former Bendix Corp., where he was a lab technician in the Brake and Automotive and Aerospace Division. For the past 14 years, he was employed as a contract driver for the U.S. Postal Service.

He was born April 15, 1920, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and had lived in New Carlisle since 1949, coming from South Bend.

On Nov. 14, 1941, in South Bend, he married Ruth Schiecke. She survives with two daughters, Gretchen D. Kessler of New Carlisle and Neal Lynne Lyvers of Plymouth; four grandchildren; two sisters, Alma Myers of Tampa, Fla., and Dorothy Kryder of South Bend; and a brother, Paul Downey of Tampa.

He was a member of the New Carlisle Conservation Club and past president of the Olive Township PTA. Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., is handling arrangements
