Services for Edward F. Penkala, 70, of 2709 Deerskin Trail, who died Thursday in his home after an illness, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Sacred Heart Church, University of Notre Dame. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 1201 S. Michigan St., where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Penkala retired from Garden City Cleaners, Niles.
He was born Jan. 16, 1918, in Bertrand Twp., and was a lifelong area resident.
In May 1944, in South Bend, he married Loretta A. Kubiak. She died Nov. 24, 1966. He is survived by a son, Timothy of San Diego; six sisters, Evelyn Tatay, Gene Guljas, Rose Kaczmarczyk and Gertrude Picking, all of South Bend, Matilda Budney of Dowagiac and Irene Lichatowich of Hubbard, Ore.; and two brothers, Clem Penkala and John Babinski, both of South Bend.
Mr. Penkala was a veteran of World War II.
