Jane Irma (Smith) Finkel

Jane Finkel, 78, of Hope, died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, May 22, 1999, at Indiana University in Indianapolis.
She was a charter member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a member of Theta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority, serving as the national grand president from 1980 to 1981. She was a member of Past Grand Presidents Honorary Alpha Omega and was a 1942 graduate of Manchester College. A retired school teacher, she taught nine years at South Bend, one year at Flat Rock and 29 years at Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp., retiring in 1981. She was a cook at Northwestern Consolidated School for 18 years, retiring in 1985.
She was a member of the National Education Association and Bartholomew County Retired Teachers Association. She was recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash in 1981. Funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Kappa Kappa Sigma Sorority or the American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Finkel was born Jan. 20, 1921, in South Bend, the daughter of Palmer D. and Vera Ann Koenig Smith. She married Albert Finkel in 1951 in South Bend. He survives. Also surviving is a son, Keith Kennick of Columbus
Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at CarmonyEwing Broadway Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be at Fairland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Diabetes Association.
