Nathan “Ralph” Benjamin

March 13, 1919 – July 4, 2004

Nathan “Ralph” Benjamin, 85, of 16740 Gerald St., Granger, Ind., went to be with the Lord at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, July 4. Ralph was born March 13, 1919, in Idaville, Ind., to Nathan and Vance Benjamin, and had lived in the South Bend, Ind., area since the age of five.

He was a graduate of Washington Clay High School, and served during World War II in the U.S. Army 534th Air Service Group stationed in Italy. In 1947 he founded Ralph Benjamin Concrete Company and in 1965 the Ralph Benjamin Form & Accessories Company, retiring in 1980.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Viola Jayne Berry, who he married on Dec.17, 1947, in South Bend. Also surviving him are his four children, Thomas (Michelle) Berry of Champaign, Ill., JoAnn (R.K.) Ackerman of Atlanta, Ga., Sandra (Joseph) Sadural of Granger and Ralph E. (Kimberly) Benjamin of Anderson, Ind.; as well as 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today, July 7, in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, followed by services at 2 p.m., and interment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorials may be made to V.F.W. Post 360.
