Patrick John Finneran, Sr

Patrick John Finneran, Sr., 81, of West Chicago and formerly of South Bend, IN passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.

He was born June 12, 1919 in Columbus, Ohio and lived in South Bend in his early youth and resided in West Chicago since 196

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church of Winfield. Mr. Finneran and his wife co-owned and operated The Captain's Bridge Antique Store in St. Charles, IL from 1984 to 1991.

He retired in 1981 from Western Electric Co. in West Chicago as Department Chief. He started working at Hawthorne Works in Cicero in 1956 and along the way worked at MIT in 1958 for NORAD, 1959-1965 transferred to Duluth, MN for Defense. In 1965 was promoted to Department chief in New York City, 1966 transferred to Western Electric, West Chicago. Mr. Finneran graduated from University of Minnesota in 1960 with degree in Industrial Arts.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1939 and retired in 1954, Lt. Commander and earned the rank of Captain in U.S. Naval Reserves, June of 1961. He was a member and past president of the West Chicago Rotary Club and member of the Telephone Pioneers of America Club.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; his son, Patrick John (Joyce) Finneran, Jr. of St. Louis, MO; four grandchildren, Patrick J. (Regina) Finneran III, Kelly-Ann (Dereck) Herman, Captain Brian Finneran U.S. Marine Corp. and Matthew P. Finneran; two step-granddaughters, Katie and Laura Skaggs; great granddaughter, Skyler; his former wife, Rita Weber Finneran and his former daughter in-law, Sherrill Finneran; brother of six; Thomas (Gertrude) of SC, Raymond (Carol) of Ariz., Sr. Francina (Eileen) Finneran) O.S.J. of PA, Margaret (the late Ted) Wagner and John (Josephine) both of South Bend, IN and Michael (Barbara) Finneran of CA; his sisters in-law, Mary A. Furlong and Catherine Walsh; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be on Monday, March 12, 2001 at 9:30 a.m. from the Norris-Walen Funeral Home. 132 Fremont St. (one block north of Washington St.) West Chicago to St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Burial in Assumption Cemetery, Winfield. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Norris-Walen Funeral Home.
