Harold C. Kryder
June 21, 1917 - Nov. 3, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Harold went to Heaven early Saturday morning at his home surrounded by his family.
He was one of five children born to Charles and Irene Kryder. Harold proudly served his country. Drafted before Pearl Harbor, he was a member of one of the first units to open up Sheppard's Field in Texas. He finished his five-year career in the military as a Ground Safety Engineer stationed in India. During his tour of duty, Harold found time to marry his bride of seventy years, Dorothy (Downey), on June 27, 1942.
After the military, Harold moved his family back to South Bend to join his dad (Charles) and brother (Don) at Chicago Motor Club. He earned the respect and trust of everyone, from the office staff to the hundreds of clients he served over his thirty-seven year career. Following the footsteps of his Dad and brother, he retired as the Branch Manager. After retirement, Harold enjoyed time with his family and friends and he and Dorothy got to travel. He especially enjoyed spending time on Indiana Lake where he liked to swim and fish. Harold was a fifty-year Mason and was a member of the St. Joseph Lodge No. 45 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite, Lions Club and the First Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Beatrice and Lucille, and a brother, Don.
His brother Verne survives. He is also survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, Bill; and four grandchildren, Korey, Kasey, Katie and Jamie Kryder; along with many nieces and nephews who loved "Uncle Harold."
