Bennie D. Mirkin, 78, of Livonia, Mich., a former South Bend, resident, died Wednesday in St. Mary's Hospital, Livonia, after an illness.
Mr. Mirkin retired in 1982 from Ford Motor Corp. after 36 years as an automotive engineer. He was born Oct. 13, 1916, in South Bend.
In Biloxi, Miss., he married Pearl Schlussel. She survives with a son, Craig of Port Huron, Mich.; four grandchildren; and three brothers, Meyer of San Francisco, Isadore North Miami Beach, Fla., and Sam of Mishawaka.
He was Army Air Corps World War II veteran, a member of U.S. Air Force Amvets and Society of Automotive Engineers, and was active with the Yankee Air Force restoring antique aircraft.
Services were conducted Friday. Burial was in Beth-El Memorial Park, Livonia. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society; Yankee Air Force, PO Box 590, Belleville, MI 48112-0590; or any charity. Ira Kaufman Funeral Home, Detroit, was in charge of arrangements
