In Memory
Rebecca Kathryn (Luebben) Smorin
October 30, 1952 – June 22, 2025
Rebecca Kathryn Smorin went to see her Lord and Savior Jesus on June 22 at 6am after an eight-month battle with cancer. She was born on October 30, 1952 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Freddie and William Luebben. She has been reunited in Heaven with siblings Cliff Luebben and Bill Luebben as well as her two daughters Lindsey and Kelsey Smorin.
She leaves behind her husband Mike Smorin and two children, Jon Smorin (Sarah Smorin) and Brett Saragusa (Dominick Saragusa) as well as her 2 grandchildren Tylar Joyce Saragusa and Savannah Vaughn. Also surviving are her brother Ed Luebben (Sally Luebben), 14 nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Becky grew up in Worthington Ohio and moved to South Bend Indiana where she graduated from Clay High School. She attended Indiana University where she studied education and was an Alpha Chi Omega.
In 1977, Becky met the love of her life, Mike, while teaching at Clay Middle School. They were married the same year and welcomed their first child, Jon, in July of 1982. In 1985 and 1987 they welcomed daughters Lindsey and Kelsey who both went to be with the Lord upon arrival. In 1989, they adopted their daughter Brett. In 1992 they moved to Bremen Indiana where they raised their children. Becky worked at the school to be near her kids and in the late 90’s Becky started her daylily farm which still grows and thrives today on her property. Becky loved flowers, being in her garden, and had a special appreciation for wine tasting. She loved visiting the wineries out in Washington where her parents lived. She enjoyed taking road trips with her husband and kids whether visiting Clearwater Beach annually or traveling out west. In her later years, she found great joy spending time with high school friends.
Anyone who spent time at Becky’s house was welcomed with extreme hospitality. She would tire herself ensuring that guests were taken care of. She was a generous giver of herself and would do anything for those she loved.
For almost 2 years, Becky was a doting grandmother, composing a special song for her granddaughter Tylar, which they sang to each other every time they were together or on FaceTime.
Most importantly Becky accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was a devoted reader of the Bible and follower of the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ernestine Raclin Hospice House in Becky’s name at https://foundationforhospice.org/donate/
