SOUTH BEND — Elizabeth Josephine "Betty" Stepniewski, 70, loving mother, who resided on Paxson Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22. She retired from the Convention and Visitors Bureau in January 1998 where she had worked since 1991. Prior to this she had worked for WNIT Television for 15 years and, from 1947 to 1954, for WSBT Radio. On Feb. 21, 1927, she was born in Chicago, Ill., to George and Vesta Weber. Her family moved to South Bend when she was three, and she had resided in South Bend since that time.

She married on June 19, 1953, as Elizabeth Weber, to Mitchell Stepniewski, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, George Weber, Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Vesta E. Demester of Evanston, Wy., and Maggie Stepniewskl of South Bend.

Mrs. Stepnlewski graduated from Washington Clay High School and completed the two-year secretarial course at the Katharine Gibbs School, Chicago. She was a member of the South Bend Press Club, the Northern Indiana Center for History, Eastern Star South Bend Chapter No. 2, and the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Mishawaka, Ind.

There will be no visitation or services at her request. Cremation will take place. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Mishawaka, or to the charity of donor's choice. Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, is in charge of arrangements.
