Charles E. Payne

Charles E. Payne, 27, of 1838 N. Brookfield Street, South Bend, Ind., was born on June 16, 1970, in South Bend, where he resided until his untimely death on Saturday, Aug. 9, in Elkhart, Ind. Charles attended Clay High School in South Bend and also attended several colleges while pursuing his basketball career. He was very active in many local basketball tournaments and events.

Leaving to mourn his passing yet cherish his memory are his mother, Doris Jean Payne, and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gertrude Payne, both of South Bend; three children, daughter and son, Kayla Jackson and Kyle Jackson of Indianapolis, Ind., and Dajion Payne of South Bend; three sisters, Almika Payne, Monicha Payne and Starla Payne, all of South Bend; two aunts, Delores Butler and Maxine Buggs, both of South Bend; two uncles, Timothy Payne of South Bend and Willie Payne of Detroit, Mich.; and other relatives and friends.

His memories will also be missed by special friends, Marlyce Jackson of Indianapolis, Tobeter Towne and Sean Trotter, both of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mr. Willie Payne; and by his aunt, Mary Curry.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Services entrusted to the Clark Funeral Chapel
