SOUTH BEND - Joseph J. Pickens, 72, residing in South Bend, passed away at 2:30 pm Wednesday, November 23, 2016, following an extended illness. He was born November 19, 1944, in South Bend, to Ralph and Willodene (Strycker) Pickens, and remained a lifelong area resident.

Joseph graduated from Washington / Clay High School in 1963. He worked as store manager for Ridge Company Auto Parts and Advanced Auto until retirement. In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed working on cars, gardening and reading.

Joseph is survived by his mother, Willodene McQueen of South Bend; sons, Joseph and Daniel Pickens, both of South Bend; his sister, Tammy (Tony) VanHimbergen of South Bend; and brothers, Reginald (Michelle) and Ronald Pickens, also of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Pickens; one brother, John Pickens; and his ex-wife, Margie Pickens.

Friends are invited to visit with the family and celebrate Joseph's life from 4:00 - 7:00 pm Tuesday, November 29, 2016, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend.
