KAREN (SMEDLEY) JORDAN

Aug. 16, 1950 - Dec. 26, 2011 SOUTH BEND - Karen Smedley White Jordan passed away Thursday, December 26, 2011 at her home in Mandeville, LA. She was 61. T

he beloved wife of Wayne A. Jordan, she is survived by her daughter, Kelli Simon; one son, Matthew Jordan; one sister, Linda Haughee; three brothers: Mark, Tim and David Smedley; two grandsons, James and Joshua Simon and one great-grandson, Gabriel Dugan. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Edwin and Alice Lorraine Peterson Smedley.

Born August 16, 1950 in South Bend, IN, she graduated from Clay High School in South Bend. After graduating in 1968, she began working at Bell Telephone as a telephone operator. She moved to the New Orleans area in 1972, working for South Central Bell through its transition to AT&T, at offices in Metairie and Covington. When she retired from AT&T in 2000, after 30 years of dedicated service, she continued to use the telephone to keep family and friends connected. Hardly a day went by that she wasn't on the phone with a friend or relative, asking how they were feeling or listening to news about their family. Karen was a devoted and passionate Saints fan and considered herself blessed to have seen "her team" win the Superbowl.

Friends, family and former co-workers gathered Friday, December 30th from noon until 3pm at her daughter's house at 480 Carroll St., Mandeville, LA 70448. Memorial services and interment will be scheduled at a later date to take place near her family's home in Leesburg, IN. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home of Covington, LA was entrusted to provide services of cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Karen's memory to the American Diabetes Association.
