Edwin Witwer Lippincott
February 20, 1941 ~ August 28, 2024 (age 83)
Colonel (Ret) Edwin Witwer Lippincott
Ed Lippincott, age 83, peacefully entered Heaven’s gate at his Shalimar, Florida home on August 28, 2024, after a prolonged illness. He was born to John and Sarah Lippincott on February 20, 1941, in South Bend, Indiana and graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He began his career in the military in 1964, earning many military decorations and awards before retiring from the Pentagon in Washington, D.C in 1990. He spent several more years after active duty as a contractor at Eglin Air Force Base, FL.
Following retirement, Ed continued to serve his community by participating in several clubs and organizations. He put his engineering skills to work as the lead set builder for Stagecrafters, a local theater. He loved bonsai and was the Treasurer for the Fort Walton Beach Florida chapter of the Bonsai Society. He thrived on helping others and was able to do so through his membership as a Kiwanian and by being a driver for both Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society. His love for dogs led him to walk dogs for a local animal shelter. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the church, helping others through the Helping Hands ministry and the Disaster Preparedness team.
Ed met his wife of sixty-two years, Jodelle Bechtold Lippincott, in sixth grade, ‘going steady’ with her in eighth grade and marrying her in college in 1962. He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kelly Sorrell and Becky Lippincott; daughter-in-law, Valerie Allan; nine grandkids; and three great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and son, Aaron Lippincott.
Ed was devoted to and loved, and dearly loved by, his family. He was a pillar of support for them with advice and wisdom that they will always hold close to their hearts. Ed was truly one of a kind, whose intelligence, kindness, humor and generosity impacted those fortunate enough to know him and call him husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Even through his pain in the final months, Ed was full of smiles and kindness to all with whom he interacted. He loved those who were helping him and made it a point to frequently tell them so. He will be dearly missed.
A celebration of life will be held at The Church of Shalimar (formerly Shalimar United Methodist), 1 Old Ferry Road, Shalimar, FL 32579 on September 21, 2024 at 11:00 a.m, followed by a reception in the Family Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's honor can be made to St. Jude (www.stjude.org/donate), a charity he cherished and proudly supported for several years.
