In Memory
Karen Elayne (Mueller) Eger
January 28, 1941 ~ December 26, 2024 83 Years Old
Karen Elayne Eger, a lifelong resident of South Bend, IN, went home to be with Jesus December 26, 2024, at the age of 83. Born on January 28, 1941, to the late George H. Mueller and Etta Mae (Kollar) Mueller. Karen was married to the late Walter Eger from 1960 to 1987 and together had 4 children.
Karen's life was spent in service of others, raising her children, caring for her parents and helping her sister during her struggle with cancer. Once the nest was empty, she turned her attentions to caring for other children, first at Noah's Ark Day Care at Redeemer Missionary Church, then Friends Day Care and finally hosting a day care in her own home.
Karen had many interests - her family being one of them. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found many opportunities to brag on them. She enjoyed music, reading and baking. She was able to share her musical talents by singing in the "Your Worship Hour" choir and her own church choir. She loved baking and often gave away what she made. She was famous for her cherry pies, sugar cookies & Boston Fudge Cake. She had an extensive book collection, and she would often re-read them. She loved having her daily Bible readings and devotions.
Karen, also known as Grammy, is survived by her loving children, Lisa (Burton) Matteson, Laura (Richard) Smith, Paul (Kristianne) Eger, and Bradley Eger. Grandchildren are Sahara (Ryan) Cornett, Galen Matteson, Gareth (Stephanie) Matteson, Robin (Alfredo) Dominguez, Luke Smith, Kari (Chad) Call, Paul Eger Jr., Benjamin (Anna) Eger, Kirsten Eger and Tyler Eger. Also surviving are 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Marsha Ann Nye and her parents, George & Etta Mae Mueller.
Funeral services for Karen will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Palmer Funeral Home - Welsheimer North Chapel. Friends may visit with family one hour prior to services. Burial will take place at Highland Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
