Mary Ann (Wharton) Zwierzynski

Mary Ann Zwierzynski, 80, of South Bend, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 in Elkhart. She was born on February 7, 1942 to the late Howard and Ruth (Borton) Wharton. She worked and retired from St. Mary’s College with 25 years of service.

Mary was united in marriage to Roy Zwierzynski on July 12, 1986, who preceded her in death on July 29, 1994. From her first marriage to Martin Kwist she was blessed with her two children, Sheila and Rodney. She was always a happy, devoted, and sweet lady who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. When she wasn’t working at St. Mary’s she dedicated her life to caring for her family. She loved spending time with others and playing card and board games. Mary Ann loved watching films with Julia Roberts in it and owned almost all her films.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheila L. Kwist of Virginia, and son, Rodney D. Kwist of South Bend, 3 grandchildren, Amanda (Richard Walz) Kwist, Kari Krueger and Ryan Kwist. Also surviving are her sisters, Mable May Rupright of Mishawaka, Debra S. (Charles) White of Walkerton, Marion D. (Ralph) Rankin of Bremen, brothers, John P. (Ann) Wharton of North Liberty, Mel Wharton of Edwardsburg, MI., and Dale H. Wharton of Breman.

Funeral services for Mary Ann will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Palmer Funeral Home – Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 10:00 – 12:00 p.m. before the service. Graveside service and burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery in South Bend.
