Herbert Lee Summersgill

Herbert L. Summersgill, 72, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on November 6, 2015.
He is survived by his son, Daniel L. (Teri) Summersgill; his daughter, Connie (Mike) Kettlehut; and his son, Mark (Ashley). He is survived by 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine E. (Driebelbis) Summersgill; his father, Herbert L. Summersgill; his brother, Denny Summersgill; and his son, Keith W. Summersgill.
Herb loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and all kinds of sports. He was an avid "biker" and traveled far and wide on his "Valkyrie." He had a lifelong love affair with animals of all kinds. His dog "Buddy" was his faithful companion for many years. He served his country, enlisting in the Air Force in 1963. He was stationed at Dover, DE, and in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. He served with distinction, receiving an honorable discharge in 1967.
Herb worked at Bendix and then in management at McCormick. He retired from owning his own painting and cleaning business. To honor Herb's wishes, there will be no memorial service. It was his wish that any contributions be made in his name to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614; or to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545
