SOUTH BEND - Mr. Steven Edward Taborn, 45, beloved father, son and brother, who resided on Auten Road, South Bend, Indiana, passed away at 4:35 a.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2011, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana. Steven was born to the union of James Leroy and Claudine (Herron) Taborn on November 19, 1965, in South Bend, Indiana.

He graduated from Clay High School in 1984 where he played football, basketball and wrestling. He gradu-ated from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1988 with a degree in Journalism. He worked 10 years with Family & Children's Center as a Youth Care Specialist; two years with AT & T as an Installer; two years with Steel Ware-house as a Laborer; and three years with the United States Navy Shipping Company as a boiler maker. He formerly at-tended Mt. Zion COGIC, Greater Holy Temple COGIC, and at the time of his death he attended Saints Memorial COGIC. His hobbies included basketball and football. He was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity where he also served as a recruiter for the fraternity.

Steven was preceded in death by his father, James Leroy Taborn, and a son, Steven Edward Taborn II.

Survivors left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Alejandra and Miranda Taborn, both of Woodstock, Illinois; his mother, Claudine Taborn of South Bend; two sisters, Cynthia Hawk of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Shirley Jean Johnson of South Bend; three brothers, James Taborn of West Lafayette, Indiana, Kenneth Taborn and Danny (and his wife, Jenny) Taborn, both of South Bend; two nieces, Nakieska Johnson and Dana Taborn; seven nephews, Danny, Nathan, Anthony, Andrew and Devin Taborn, Marcus Johnson and Darius Hawk; along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Steven Edward Taborn will be held at noon on Friday, January 21, 2011, at Saints Memorial Church of God in Christ where the pastor is Carl J. Steen, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Visi-tation will be from 11:00 a.m. to noon in the church.
