Walter Hans Reichold

Walter Hans Reichold

October 9, 1957 ~ April 13, 2025     67 Years Old

Walter H. Reichold, 67, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025.

Walt was born on October 9, 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Richard P. and Marie E. Reichold. As the second of four children, he was always the ring leader, getting his siblings into mischief. While attending Clay High School he loved playing the clarinet in the band. After graduating from high school, he studied Landscape Architecture at Purdue University and went on to operate his own landscape company, TerraScape Landscaping.

On June 7,1980, he married Sherry D. Woolet in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana. Along with his wife of 45 years he is also survived by his son Matthew (Anne) Reichold; daughter Jill (Scott) Stuck; grandchildren Orion, Olivia and Alice; sister Susan (Randy) Stierer; brothers Kurt (Kim) Reichold; Karl Reichold and 13 nieces and nephews.

A man of faith, kind and genuine, stubborn in character, he believed what he believed and always wanted to keep things simple. Walt’s loveable demeanor and witty humor made him beloved by anyone who met him throughout the years, often shooting the breeze late into the night. He was a dedicated Notre Dame football fan, master fire-builder and armchair philosopher. Walt possessed near encyclopedic knowledge on any and every subject and engineered plans and projects with astonishing detail. A true patriarch, he established family traditions to honor loved ones, which strengthened bonds and created lasting memories. Walt connected with people on a personal level and showed his love and care through time spent and friendly conversation, often on his back deck. If you were a neighbor or friend of Walt, you knew that his wit and humor always made for fun company.

A dedicated Saint Matthew parishioner for almost 40 years, he loved celebrating Christmas Eve Mass at the cathedral with his wife, children and grandchildren and was proud they could fill an entire pew for the past several years. He shared his creativity and passion for landscaping and design by helping many family members, friends, and clients beautify their outdoor spaces. Walt was a skilled and creative landscape architect who had a special talent to conceive, design, and construct any type of project with a personal touch. He leaves a beautiful imprint outside our homes and on our hearts.
