David Anthony Shelley
David A. Shelley, a cherished family man, renowned ballroom dancing instructor, and lifelong Notre Dame fan, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2024, in Granger, at the age of 63. Born on May 6, 1961, in Mishawaka, David's life was a testament to the power of love, humor, and generosity.
David's early years in Mishawaka were filled with the warmth of a close-knit family, including his loving parents, Robert and Lettie, his sister Debbie Compton, and his brothers Roger and the late Robert L. Shelley. His formative years were marked by a spirited enthusiasm for life that would become his hallmark.
After graduating from high school, David found his calling as a ballroom dancing instructor. His passion for dance was infectious, and he brought joy and grace to countless students over the years. David's dedication to his craft was matched only by his commitment to his family.
He married his beloved wife, Shelley, and together they raised a family that was the center of his world. His children, Paris, Catherine, Zachariah, and David Alexander, were his pride and joy, and he instilled in them the values of hard work and the importance of family. David's love extended to his cherished grandchildren, Rome, Nova, Zelda, Zivah, and Jacob, who will forever remember their grandfather's laughter and tender presence.
David's interests reached beyond the dance floor and into the night sky. An avid astronomy enthusiast, he spent countless hours gazing at the stars, sharing his sense of wonder and curiosity with all who knew him. His ability to find beauty in the cosmos mirrored his approach to life, always looking upward and outward.
Those who knew David will remember him as a loving and funny man, whose generosity knew no bounds. His laughter was a gift that he shared freely, and his presence was a comfort to everyone in his life. David's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the joy of dance, which will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends.
