Mary Ann Bortone, 88, of Granger, IN, passed away on July 24,2024 at the Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka, IN.
Mary Ann was born on August 25, 1935, in South Bend Indiana to the late Clarence and Hazel Rhodes. On November 28, 1959, she married Joseph M. Bortone, Jr., who preceded her in death on November 28, 2012.
She was also preceded in death by family members Walter & Sophie Rhodes, Audrey (Rhodes) and Henry Gizewski, Irv and Lucy Rhodes, Charles Rhodes, Evelyn (Rhodes) Yerk, Irene (Yerk) Lehman, Terry Gizewski, Doug Bortone, Bruce Bortone and her very special 4-legged, furry companion, Daisy.
Surviving family members are Linda and Larry Rodino, Millie and Dave Hack, Jean Rhodes, Chris and Rachel Bortone, Michael and Christy Bortone, Sarah Bortone Gast, Tammy Gizewski, Ryan & Janet Gizewski, Elaine and Ryan Garton, Larre and Melonie Rhodes, Cindy Fuller, Sherry and Albert Olszewski, Gary and Jan Rhodes, Greg and Karen Rhodes, Shirley Yerk, Rich Bortone, Greg Bortone and Family. And many other nieces and nephews she cherished.
Great Grandchildren Kinley Bortone, Easton Bortone, Tyler Bortone, Cameron Bortone, Colin Bortone, and Gracie Bortone.
Special friends Charlotte Lauer, Nora Lewis, Rick and Mickey Davenport, Chuck and Judy Bare, Janice Cerri, Dean Miller, Mary Reynolds, Sandy Dean, Rod Smith and many others that have touched her life.
Mary Ann graduated from Washington-Clay high school. She went to work after high school at Notre Dame University. She was recruited by a friend and moved to Dodge Manufacturing. She worked at Dodge until retiring in 1986 after the family purchased Kosciusko Club, Mishawaka, Indiana and remodeled it to open Celebrations Unlimited, a beautiful banquet hall. They continued on that venture until 2002 when they retired and sold the hall. Mary Ann and her husband loved traveling with family and friends, visiting many places including Myrtle Beach, Las Vegas, many casinos and enjoying several cruises. In her spare time, she took great pride in being a master seamstress, creating wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses to make sure each bride felt very special. She also enjoyed making cakes for weddings, birthdays and any other occasion that needed a special touch. She and her husband enjoyed golfing with friends and family whenever they could and hosted many Bortone Golf Tournaments. Mary Ann enjoyed crafts and decorating her home. She always treasured her time with family and friends no matter if it was a few minutes or a few hours.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Center for Hospice for her care and support they provided to the family.
Visitation will be held on Saturday July 27, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, with services to follow at 2:00 in the funeral home. A private family entombment will take place at Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Susan G. Komen, Attn: Trish Ellis, 13770 Noel Rd. Suite 801889, Dallas, TX 75380 (Mary Ann was a breast cancer survivor) or Center for Hospice, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
