Bernard "Bernie" F. Hacker, 77, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 4:05 a.m. Tuesday, January 10, 2006, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. He was owner of Michiana Millwork, retiring in 1994.

Mr. Hacker was born on January 14, 1928, in South Bend, IN, to Floyd and Irene (Bernaert) Hacker, and had lived here all of his life.

On June 5, 1948, in South Bend, IN, he married Evelyn Ebersole, who survives. Along with his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn Hacker, he is survived by four daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Tom Farrow of Elkhart, Phyllis and Ken Dombrowski, Angela and Mark Hoerstman, and Brenda and Mike Slater, all of South Bend; 10 grandchildren, David (Stephanie) Spink of South Carolina, Brian Spink of South Bend, Kristen Farrow of Fort Wayne, Cindy Dombrowski, Curtis Dombrowski, Christie Dombrowski, Neil Hoerstman, Layne Hoerstman, Garrett Hoerstman and Leslie Hoerstman, all of South Bend.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Armond Hacker, in November 2005.

Mr. Hacker loved his family very much and was a friend to everyone he met. His woodworking was a special talent that he greatly enjoyed. As a skilled woodworking craftsman, his original works were requested by many businesses, schools and churches all over Michiana.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006, in St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church, 2120 E. Jefferson, South Bend, where he was a member. Rev. Terry Fisher will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Hacker may be made to St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, South Bend, is assisting the family with arrangements.

A beautiful life that came to an end,

He died as he lived, everyone's friend.

Of one we loved and will never forget.
