SOUTH BEND - Henry C. Van Kempen , 67, of Palisades Avenue, died at 3:10 p.m. Monday in Memorial Hospital. Mr. Van Kempen retired in 1992 from Healthwin Hospital and Nursing Home after 22 years of service. He was born Aug. 26, 1927, in South Bend.

On Nov. 3, 1979, in South Bend, he married Magaret E. Hide. She survives with four daughters, Linda Fleese, Kathy Belich, Charlene Davis and Debbie Schnemen, all of South Bend; four sons, David Conard, William Conard and Charles Conard, all of South Bend, and Rev. Robert Van Kempen of Fort Wayne; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, volunteer for Civil Defense and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, where a parish rosary will be said at 7 p.m.; and one hour before services Thursday in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
