Tondra Jill Hafner

Tondra Jill Hafner, 74 years old, passed away at 11:55 a.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at her home. Tondra was born on July 17, 1948 in Bloomington, IN, to the late Roy Lewis and Mary Lou (Thomasma) Hafner. She has lived most of her life in our local area.

Tondra attended Indiana University majoring in Library Science. She was a former employee of Sally Swiss and J.C. Penny. Among Tondra’s hobbies of interest were traveling, reading, craft work and taking care of her animal pets. Tondra cherished her friends and felt all well-meaning people should be respected and helped if necessary. She loved her parents.

Tondra is survived by her uncle, David L. Hafner; cousins, Brent Hafner, Julie Hafner, David Norosz and Kris Norosz; and her special friends, Tammy Herring, Jennifer Duarte and Brie Phend. Along with her parents, Tondra was preceded in death by three aunts, Norma Lu Hafner, Joan Norosz, and Eleanor Hafner; and her uncle, Robert Hafner.

Tondra was a person who had a smile on her face first thing upon awakening each day, and she carried it with her throughout the day. Her smile could light up a room and it enabled her to simply spread joy like a ray of sunshine. Tondra shared this joy selflessly, and put others ahead of herself. If you were having a bad day, exhausted or whatever, just seeing Tondra made things seem better. She never missed an opportunity to tell you that she loved you.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00p.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the Palmer Funeral Home—Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN. A private burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00a.m.-1:00p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Tonda J. Hafner may be donated to Reins of Life, 55200 Quince Road, South Bend, IN 46619; or to Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
