AVON PARK, FL - Anthony "Tony" Vargo, 67, of Avon Park, Florida, long time resident of South Bend, Indiana, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at 6:00 a.m.

Born on March 13, 1947, in South Bend, Indiana, Tony was the son of Albert Vargo and Dorothy (Ryan, Vargo) Brant. Tony served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Surviving is Tony's wife of 42 years, Linda (Short) Vargo. Also surviving is his son, James (Tammy) Vargo and daughter, Jodi (Tye) Curran. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Tyler Curran and Gracen & Bryce Vargo. Tony is also survived by siblings, Joe (Leslie) Vargo, Becky (Clarence) Myers, Mark (Jennifer) Vargo and step-sister, Kay (Brant) Stephens. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Tony loved his family dearly. Tony retired from the University of Notre Dame. Tony loved Notre Dame Football and his Green Bay Packers. Tony loved living in Florida and camping at Goff Lake Campground in Marcellus, Michigan. Tony was a member of American Legion Post 69, Avon Park, Florida, VFW 9853, Avon Park, Florida, Moose Lodge, Avon Park, Florida and AmVet #21, Sebring, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will be a Memorial Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church. Announcement will be made on the date and time of this service. A private burial with family will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House, Veterans and/or American Cancer Society.
