ST. JOSEPH - Betty Jane Conklin Christian passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012, at South Place Nursing Center in Athens, Texas.

Betty was born to Axie Mae and Esta Greer Kennedy on August 8, 1925, in St. Joseph, Michigan. She was given her middle name "Jane" after her maternal grandmother. "Jane" was passed on as a middle name through the next three generations. Betty had two brothers, Eugene Maxwell and John Albert Kennedy, both of whom predeceased her.

She began corresponding with George Walter Conklin of South Bend while he was in the Navy during World War II. They finally met after he was discharged. On January 11, 1947, she married George, who preceded her in death in 1978. On September 26, 2000, she married Clinton Lee Christian, who survives her. She and Clinton had many happy, loving years together living in Florida. Betty worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company for many years in many capacities, including as a teller, service representative and supervisor. She retired in 1982. Betty enjoyed quilting and made many beautiful quilts that her family will cherish. She was a very kind person and a very loving mother.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Susan Jane Ratliff (Ernie) of Athens, Texas, and Cindy Lou Keenan (Jeffrey) of Houston, Texas. She has two grandchildren, Marc Allen Ratliff of Austin, Texas, and Jennifer Jane Koerth (Steven); and three great-grandchildren, Alexa Jane, Zoe Renee and Mitchell Ryan Koerth, all of Athens, Texas.

 A family service will be held at a later date. Betty will be laid to rest by her "momma" and "daddy" in South Whitley, Indiana. Memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association
