SOUTH BEND - James Edward Ferry, residing in South Bend, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at his home.

He was born on June 8, 1947, in South Bend, to Herman L. and Louise (Dieu) Ferry. He attended John Adams High School, and graduated from Clay High School. He obtained his degree in business from Indiana University, and worked at Bendix Corporation before moving to San Jose, CA, to work for Fairchild, Inc. He was later offered a position at S.C.I. Corp. as vice president and factory manager in Bangkok. He was then offered a similar position in Hungary for one year at S.C.I. Corporation, and then retired.

He proudly served in the United States Navy for five years during the Vietnam war. He was a member of the Edwardsburg V.F.W. Post 2284, and the Michigan Rifle Association. He loved fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Preechaya (Sittipunt) Ferry; his mother, Louise Ferry of South Bend; daughter, Jennifer (Christopher) Ferry-Fisher; sons, Jon Ferry and Todd (Sarah) Ferry; four grandchildren, Eden, Theo, Penny, and Phoebe; along with his sister, Janet (Bruce Fisher) Ferry of Ft. Pierce, FL. James was preceded in death by his father, Herman L. Ferry, on Sept. 29, 2011. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the St. Joseph County Police Department.

Memorial services and military honors will be at 3:00 pm on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
