Janis "Kay" (Juday) Tomkiewicz, 57, of Cleveland Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in her home surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, Aug. 19, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Janis was born April 24, 1947, to Harold and Alyce Juday in South Bend. Her mother, Alyce, preceded her in death on July 14, 1979.

Janis graduated from Clay High School, South Bend, in 1965. She attended an Indianapolis Business School for two years. She was employed by South Bend Screw Products for 18 years, Neely Lettering and Image Wear for 12 years, and Chandler Sales and Service for eight years.

Janis "Kay" was loved deeply by her family and friends. She was a very active member of New Life Christian Fellowship Church, Mishawaka, Ind. She was a masterful seamstress and best known for her organizational skills, hospitality and giving nature to family, friends and anyone who came in contact with her. We will cherish our memories and she will be greatly missed.

Kay is survived by her loving husband, Daniel, whom she married Aug. 5, 1983; three sons, Eric M. (Donna) Deppert of Mishawaka, Daniel (Margaret) Tomkiewicz II of Port Orchard, Wash., and Christopher (Peggy) Tomkiewicz of South Bend. She is also survived by three daughters, Annette (Cliff) Tuttle of Niles, Mich., Denise (fiancé, Mike Daugherty) Tomkiewicz of North Liberty, Ind., and Lisa (Billy) Martin of Cherokee Falls, S.C.; and 14 grandchildren, Brandon, Mara, Crystal, Daniel, Samantha, Brennan, Jeremy, Jimmy, Julie, Katie, Megan, Trevor, Joseph and Brian.

Also surviving are her father, Harold (Ann) Juday of South Bend; a brother, Kent (Helen) Juday of Oak Ridge, N.C.; and two sisters, Karole (Richard) Swanson of Niles and Karen (Gerald) Zoller of Lees Summit, Mo.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Aug. 22, in the HICKEY Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, 289-1000. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, in the funeral home, with Pastor John Staples of New Life Christian Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Joseph County.
