SOUTH BEND - Born on October 4, 1930, the only child of Earl Leo and Mary (Brown) Huss, Russell "Russ" Earl Huss passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Cardinal Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was 82 years old.

Russ lived his entire life in Clay Township. He graduated in 1948 from Washington-Clay High School, where he was voted Most Valuable Basketball Player. After high school, Russ joined the United States Marines. Following the service, he owned and operated the Sunoco Service Station on U.S. 933. He was also a bus driver for Clay High School until he retired. Russ was a big fan of Indiana University basketball, as well as Bobby Knight. He was also a big hunting and fishing fan, who loved spending his summers in the UP of Michigan, as well as trips out west and to Alaska.

In 2002, Russ married the love of his life, Nina Dean. She survives along with five stepdaughters, Karen, Cheryl, Shelly, Teresa and Mary; as well as many step grandchildren. He also leaves behind his longtime friend, Duane Clobridge, who was his fishing and hunting buddy. Russ will also be missed by his many friends and neighbors in Clay Township.

Memorial services for Russ will be held at noon on Monday, May 6, 2013 in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 am until the time of services on Monday in the funeral home.
