Edward Alexander Kubiak, 91, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully on Friday, September 10, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born on July 6, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Edmund S. and Emma R. (Smith) Kubiak. On May 5, 1962 in Grand Rapids, MI he married Mary Jane Hautala, who survives.

Edward is survived by two daughters, Jane E. (Mark) Johnson of Grand Junction, Colorado, Susan C. Burgess of Las Vegas, Nevada, three sons, Edward Andrew (Angela) Kubiak of Hillsboro, Oregon, David J. (Jennifer) Kubiak of Bloomington, Indiana, Timothy J. (Elizabeth) Kubiak of Winnetka, Illinois, ten grandchildren,, Kaela (Nathan) Mohler, Jacob Burgess; Gerik, Kelsey and Sam Kubiak; Emma Johnson; Evelyn and Eddie Kubiak; Ruby and Casimir Kubiak; two sisters, Phyllis Campbell of South Bend, Indiana, and Lois Myers of Edwardsburg, Michigan, along with several nieces and nephews.

Edward was also preceded in death by one grandson, Joseph Burgess.

Ed was born, raised and lived his entire life in the Clay Township community. Upon graduating from Washington Clay HS in 1948, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served from 1948 until 1952. He served aboard the USS Pecatonica and later aboard the LST 1083 during the Korean War. In honor of his service, Ed participated in an Honor Flight in May of 2018 accompanied by his three sons. Upon his honorable discharge he enrolled at the University of Notre Dame where he earned his business degree in 1956. After graduation he entered the family business, eventually taking over Michiana Tile and Marble Co. where he worked into his 80s. He was a true craftsman of his trade. Ed was also an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago Cubs, and Notre Dame Women's Basketball, although he enjoyed a good ballgame regardless of the teams or sport. He was a dedicated family man and a devout husband of his wife of nearly 60 years. He was a gentle, hard-working and honest man, who left his mark on all that knew him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in Christ the King Catholic Church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Edward's name to one of the following organizations: Christ the King Catholic School, Christ Child Society of South Bend or the Honor Flight Network at www.honorflight.org.
