Lloyd Edward Johnson, age 86, of South Bend, passed away Friday evening at Healthwin Specialized Care, South Bend.  Lloyd was a Science Teacher at Clay High School for 38 years retiring in 1995.  Lloyd was born on January 6, 1936 in Tyner, IN to the late Henry L. and Annetta M. On August 10, 1963, in Valparaiso, IN, Lloyd married Janet (Spangler) Johnson who survives.  Also surviving is a daughter, Karen Johnson of Indianapolis, a son, Edward (Rita) Johnson of Covert, MI, two grandchildren, Garrah and Jena Johnson, three sisters, Margaret Dobbs of Destin, FL, Harriet Sloop of Elkhart, IN, and June Johnson of Wabash, IN, and two brothers, Garrah (Patricia) Johnson and William (Marcia) Johnson, both of Wabash, IN.

Starting in 1964 Lloyd and Jan attended First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Mishawaka, IN, where he taught Sunday School and served as an Elder for many years. Jan & Lloyd lived their faith and helped their children become committed followers of Jesus and as adults, leaders within their own church families.

Lloyd was a graduate of Indiana State University in 1957 and earned his Masters Degree in Biology from Ball State University. In 1957 Lloyd began his teaching career at Washington Clay High School, and continued at Clay High School until retirement. He taught biology and related courses, and served as the chairman of the CHS Science Department for 30 years. During that time he taught many students, eventually some of their kids, and perhaps even a few 3rd generations.

Lloyd brought the farm to the city by raising a bountiful garden every year, took his family on many adventures in campgrounds in the Midwest, often near family in Wabash and Terre Haute, Indiana. After retirement, Lloyd took up woodworking more seriously and made hundreds of pieces, all beautiful, many very practical and functional, and all lovingly signed with his classic signature Lloyd E Johnson. The man loved and cared deeply for his family, friends and students, and is missed very much.
