Gerald Lee Snyder - Class Of 1950 VIEW PROFILE

Gerald Lee Snyder

Gerald Lee Snyder

May 13, 1932 – Nov. 29, 2015

Born in Roseland, Gerald was a life time resident of Clay Township except for time in Angola obtaining his engineering degree from the former Tri-State University and time served in the US Army. Employed for 39 years at Bendix/Allied Signal as an engineer at the Mishawaka facility, Gerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Gerald married Joyce Kane on 11-28-1953. Joyce passed away 11-21-2008 taking the magic from his life, as he put it, but Gerald still and always enjoyed celebrating family and life on many occasions. He was a well-respected Scoutmaster when his son Joel was in Boy Scouts, the inspiration which Joel carried into his adult life as a Scoutmaster with his own two sons. In addition to his life work as an engineer, Gerald enjoyed working with his hands on everything from rebuilding engines to framing the artwork he and Joyce loved to collect. He did much work in his children’s homes in addition to his unique approach to projects in his own home.

Gerald is survived by his brother, Pastor Russell Snyder (Alice); son, Joel Snyder (Margaret); daughters, Jennifer Carlson (Brian) and Anyce Bothast (Steve); Grandchildren, Jessie Hammad (Kareem), Kolleen Backlund (Eric), Tom Bothast, Gillian Walkiewicz (Trent), Jacob Snyder and Lucas Snyder; and great-grandchildren, Natasha, Eliana, Joshua and Kelsey, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Gerald enjoyed playing bridge, camping, traveling and spending time with the multiple generations of children into which he instilled much fun, honesty and responsibility along with great family values. Gerald touched so many lives in so many ways with his family, friends and professional liaisons.

A celebration of life will be announced at a future date. In Gerald’s memory, contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN, 46545.

Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
