Nora Jane Ortman (Ryan)

Nora Jane Ryan
Jan. 26, 1933 - Dec. 1, 2008

SOUTH BEND - Nora Jane Ryan, 75, of South Bend, passed away
December 1, 2008, in her daughter's home. Born January 26, 1933, in
South Bend, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Ruth V.
Ortman. On November 18, 1950, she married Eugene C. Ryan, who
preceded her in death in 2001. Also preceding her in death was her
son, Bruce Allen Ryan, in 1983. Nora is survived by her daughter,
Laura R. Ryan of South Bend; two grandsons, Donald E. Perkins III of
South Bend and Brandon Bruce Ryan of South Bend; and many nieces, nephews,
brothers- and sisters-in-law. She will be remembered as a loving mother,
grandmother, wife, aunt and sister-in-law. She spent her time either with her family
or on Diamond Island. She was a member of the South Bend Cruising Club and the
Clay Democratic Club. She graduated from Washington Clay High School in 1950. She
retired from the Teamsters Union, Local 364, after 30 years of dedicated service. She
was a huge Bears and Notre Dame football fan; and she was proud of the fact that the
infamous ND four horses belonged to her grandparents. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m.
on Thursday in the McGann Hay, University Chapel, Edison Road, and one hour prior
to the service. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m., also in the
funeral home, with the Indiana State Police Chaplain, Bill Wassner, officiating. Burial
will follow at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center
for Hospice and Palliative Care.
