Herman Joseph Reed

Herman J. Reed, 80, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday March 13, 2013 at his home.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial with military honors, presented by Moline American Legion Post 246, will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated later.
Herman was born Oct. 21, 1932, in St. Joseph County, Ind., a son of Arthur L. and AnnaBelle Morris Reed. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Dixie Dyan McMurray on March 22, 1977, in Beaumont, Texas.
Prior to his retirement, Herman was a retail manager with Ardan's Jewelry, later with Gordons Jewelry, and lastly with K's Merchandise in Davenport.
Herman loved spending time with his wife and family. He cherished all of them, and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all.
Surviving are his wife, Dixie, Rock Island; daughter, Joan Reed-Moorhead, and her husband Gary, Bluegrass; sons, James Arthur Reed, and his wife Marsha, Wichita, Kan.,, and Michael Joseph Reed, and his wife Amber, Rock Island; grandchildren (and spouses), Eric (Nikki) Moorhead, Mary (Jon) Erskin, Victoria Reed, and Masyn Reed; one great-granddaughter; sister, Mary Dolph, South Bend, Ind.; brother, John Reed, Washington; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Arthur Reed; and two sisters, Ann Bergenhagen and Martha Reed.
