SOUTH BEND - Lois J. Crawford, 85, of South Bend, passed away Thursday August 18, 2011, in Golden Living Center at Fountainview, Mishawaka, IN.
She was born April 18, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Ralph and Bessie (Hartzell) Erick. On December 15, 1945, as Lois J. Erick, she married Andrew "Benny" Crawford, who preceded her in death on March 9, 1986. Lois was also preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Crawford; her son, Marshall Holycross; two sisters, Mildred Duncan and Maxine Riffle; and by two brothers, Bud and Robert Erick.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara A. "Bobbi" Crawford and Jill Stens; her son, Benny (Ernestine) Crawford, all of South Bend; six grandchildren, Benny (Kerri) Crawford of Fishers, IN, Dianne (Ken) Froehlke of Granger, IN Melody (Louis) Towle of South Bend, Jackie (Collin) Scheiber of Wakarusa, IN, Robyn (John) Hall of South Bend and Brad (Heather) Holycross of Granger; 15 great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Jeremy and Adalie Crawford, Nicholas Froehlke, Harper, Reese, and Maison Smith, John Lee, Brett Scheiber, Ryan, John and Danielle Hall, and Kelly and Brandy Holycross. Lois was very proud of her family.
She was a warm and loving wife, mother and grandmother, who also gathered other children in her home. Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as "Nana" or "Great" by her grandchildren. She was a 1944 graduate of Washington Clay High School and an avid Notre Dame supporter.
