Raymond "Doc" Galbreath, 78, of South Bend, died of cancer on Saturday, January 29, in Holy Cross Care Services in South Bend.

The Welsheimer North Funeral Home, South Bend, is in charge of arrangements. Cremation rites will be accorded and the family will have a private memorial service at a later date. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Cross Care Services, Hospice of St. Joseph County, or to the American Cancer Society.

Galbreath was born August 8, 1926, the son of Martin Jacob Galbreath and Cora Hombeck Galbreath in Clay Township, IN.

He is survived by a sister, Sybil Jennings of South Bend. He is also survived by three nephews, Eldon Jennings of San Diego, CA, Richard Jennings of New Carlisle, IN, and Douglas Jennings of Hudson, IL; and one niece, Judy Arnold of Bradenton, Florida. A brother, Eugene Galbreath, preceded him in death. There are also many great-nieces and nephews.

Galbreath was a Washington-Clay High School gradate. He worked for many years for Commercial Services of South Bend and was an insurance inspector for them. He served in World War II and was stationed for a short time at Pearl Harbor. He loved to play the accordion and was an avid Frankie Yankovitz fan. He played often in Berrien County night spots, and had his own polka band, the Polka Dots.

"Uncle Doc" will be deeply missed by his family.
