GRANGER - Margaret Helen Johnson, 85, of Granger died Sunday, August 21, 2011 in the home of her beloved daughter and son-in-law Patricia and Jeffrey Wallis, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Johnson was born January 2, 1926 in South Bend to the late Edna (Redding) and Cecil Hodgson and was a lifetime Michiana resident. On October 27, 1949 in South Bend as Margaret H. Hodgson she married George Beaver who preceded her in death September 3, 1974. She became re-acquainted with an old friend, Edward E. Johnson whose wife had died, and they were married April 12, 1980.

Edward survives along with daughters, Patricia Wallis (Jeffrey) of South Bend, Rosalyn Betts of Tennessee; a son, Paul Johnson (Dena) of Sebring, FL; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and siblings, Evelyn Murray of South Bend, Cecil Hodgson, Jr. of Niles, MI, and Ronald Hodgson (Jolene) of South Bend. She was preceded by a daughter, Lynn Johnson Handy. Margaret graduated from the former Washington-Clay High School and attended Indiana University, Bloomington.


She was employed at the University of Notre Dame Lobund Laboratory for 40 years, under Dr. Morris Pollard, as his laboratory and research assistant. While at the University she wrote and presented several research papers in the United States and Europe. She loved to travel and visited numerous places in America and was a member of the Niles Garden Club for many years. She dearly loved all her extended family and each returned her love. She will be sadly missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. with Rev. Bob Moore of Calvary Chapel of Granger officiating.

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. today, August 23rd in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN, 46637.
