Norma J. Kiff (Palmer)

Norma J. Palmer

Mar. 26, 1926 - Mar. 28, 2017

Norma J. Palmer, 91, of Granger, IN passed through Heaven’s Gates Tuesday evening, March 28, 2017 after a 1½ year battle with cancer. Norma was born March 26, 1926 in Sumnerville, MI to the late Ethel B. (Amick) and Harlan V. Kiff.

On September 16, 1944 in South Bend she married Robert Palmer who died in 1982. She was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Palmer, Jr. in 2007; two half-sisters Patsy Simonis and Phillis DeVos; and half-brother Paul Karns,Jr. Surviving to cherish her memory are her son, Patrick Palmer and fiancé Rosemarie Huffer of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Maria Palmer of Three Rivers, MI.; and two half-sisters Ann M. Miltonburger of Nles, MI and Peggy Cernak of Berrien Springs, MI.

Norma had a rich and lively life stemming from many hobbies starting with ceramics and floral design for the last 40 years. She also loved oil painting, boating, as a member of the South Bend Power Squadron for 30 years, gardening, ponding, and playing the piano. Her favorite pastime became hula dancing the last 14 years, doing hula shows in nursing homes and performing with her club to brighten folks’ days. She also enjoyed traveling with her high school chum, Chuck Johnson, of Niles. They drove every year to Florida to visit Chuck’s nieces and nephews as well as to Ohio to visit Chuck’s World War II buddy. It broke Norma’s heart to not be able to make the trip last spring to visit the Florida folks. Her son took her to Myrtle Beach and North Carolina to see his new home as well as the Carolina Opry and the ocean which she so loved and painted constantly. The family would like to express their extreme appreciation to the staff of the Center for Hospice Care for their help and care.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 1st in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home.
