Jo Marilyn Rigg Palmer passed away on February 5, 2014 at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center at the age of 87.

Born August 26, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Orville Lee Rigg and Lavonna Creighton Rigg.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Lee Rigg.

Jo Marilyn Rigg Palmer Jo Marilyn Rigg Palmer passed away on February 5, 2014, at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation and Health Care Center at the age of 87.

Born August 26, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Orville Lee Rigg and Lavonna Creighton Rigg. She was educated in the Maywood, Illinois public school system and subsequently matriculated at the University of Illinois where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics with an emphasis on clothing design and construction. Jo was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and a life member of the United Methodist Women.

She was a member of the Sigma Kappa sorority at the University of Illinois as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Danville Chapter of the Embroiders Guild of America as well as Sew and Sew. All of her life Jo was known for creating beautiful things with her hands.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Sarah Lee Rigg. She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. David J. Palmer; her daughter, Kathleen Jo Jackson and her husband, Jim, of Dayton, Ohio; her son, Rev. David R. Palmer of Louisa, Virginia; her grandchildren, Sarah and Chad Langville of Roswell, Georgia, Joshua and Christen Palmer of Winchester, Virginia, Matthew and Carrie Jackson of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, and Andrew Palmer of Winchester, Virginia; and two great-grandchildren, Thomas James Jackson and Evelyn Kathleen Langville.

Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2014, with the Reverend Tilden Bridges and the Reverend Ron Mateer officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday prior to the funeral at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. and at other times at the residence. Townes Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Palmer family.
