SOUTH BEND - Dorothy A. Trefun, 84, of South Bend, passed away at 8:40 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, in Dujarie House, Notre Dame, IN. Dorothy was born August 20, 1926, in South Bend, to the late Earl and Freida (Tasher) Rupley.
On June 28, 1947, in South Bend, Dorothy married William Trefun, who passed away April 28, 1979. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra, and a brother, Donald. Dorothy is survived by a son, William E. Trefun of South Bend; daughter, Ailene K. Wilson (Irvin) of Richmond, Virginia; grandson, Bradley W. Wilson (Rosemarie) of Carol Stream, IL; great-grandchildren, Vincent and Carmen Wilson of Carol Stream, IL; and sisters, Althea Hoskins (Keith) of Wellman, Iowa, and Esther Brown of Elkhart, IN.
Dorothy graduated from Epworth School of Nursing in 1948. She retired from nursing at Carlyle Nursing Home. She was a member of Lydick United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and directed the Junior Choir. Dorothy and her husband owned and operated the Lydick Ice Cream Parlor from 1968 to 1978. She was also the past president of the Warren Twp. P.T.A.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, in Lydick United Methodist Church, 26510 W. Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46628. Pastor James Toole will officiate the services. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the services on Monday in the church. Private burial will be held at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger.
