Betty Jean Doud

NILES - Betty Jean Doud, 85, of Niles, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012, in Brentwood at Niles.

Betty was born May 31, 1926, in Beaverdam, Michigan, to the late Clarence and Christella (Zwagerman) Voss.

She was a 1944 graduate of Washington-Clay High School in South Bend, and a 1948 graduate of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

After graduating from Moody, she worked as a missionary in the Ozark Hills in Arkansas, teaching Bible classes in one-room schoolhouses around Springdale, Fayetteville and Lincoln.

On August 5, 1961, in South Bend, Betty Voss married Ralph Doud, who passed away October 14, 1993.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Melody (Gerry) Van Lue of Niles, Michigan; sons, Gregg E. (Betsy) Doud of Niles, MI, and Mark D. (Rebecca) Doud of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren, Christie, Alyssa and Ben VanLue, Zachary, Emma, Hannah and Jonathan Doud; sisters, Lois (Walter) Cocking of Spirit Lake, IA, and Evelyn (Bill) Lehman of Jackson, MI.

Betty was retired from Merrick's Pharmacy in South Bend, and was a first generation scrapbooker who enjoyed taking pictures of her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm. (today) Thursday, March 8, 2012, in Northside Baptist Church, 53198 C.R. 9, (Johnson St.) Elkhart, Indiana, with Pastor Nathan Breneman officiating. Friends may visit with the family 10:00 am. till time of services today in the church. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
