Darroll Dean Benjamin

Darroll Dean Benjamin, known affectionately to friends and family as Dean, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024, at the age of 85 in his hometown of Mishawaka, Indiana. Born on July 9, 1938, in Mishawaka to the late Robert P. Benjamin and Rose M. (Rogers) Benjamin, Dean's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his career, and his community.
Dean's early life in Mishawaka set the stage for a lifetime of service and mentorship. As a proud Marine, he exemplified honor, courage, and commitment, values that guided him both on and off the battlefield. Transitioning to civilian life, Dean found fulfillment in law enforcement, serving with pride in the Mishawaka Police Department until his retirement. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his professional life as he became a treasured coach for both Marian High School and Mishawaka High School softball teams. Through his coaching, Dean not only honed the skills of countless young athletes but also imparted valuable life lessons of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Dean was an active member of various clubs, contributing his time and energy to organizations that held special significance in his life. As a proud member of the FOP Lodge #91, De Amicis Club, and Arie Eagles 2091, and the B-K Club of Mishawaka, he found camaraderie, friendship, and a sense of community.
On February 24, 1968, in Mishawaka, Indiana, Dean's life took on new meaning as he joined hands in matrimony with Judi (Canarecci) Benjamin. Their union was a testament to love's enduring power, marking the beginning of a journey filled with shared joys, laughter, and unwavering companionship. Together, they joyfully welcomed 3 children into their lives and laid the foundation for their growing family.
Dean's legacy is carried on by his loving family, which includes his wife Judi Benjamin, daughters, Jill (Michael) Ridenour, Tracy (Dean) Schmidt, and Dina Williams, and his son, Ryan (Jessica) Benjamin. He was a doting grandfather to Jordan, Tyler, Karson, Anthony, Jack, Alexandria, Grace, Tinsley, Aleah, and Alexia, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to his life.
Dean was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his siblings: Mary, Lillian, Barbara, Virginia, Russel, Pete, John, and Jack.
Dean Benjamin lived a life full of purpose, love, and laughter. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the remarkable man he was and the enduring impact he has left on his family and community. His was a life well-lived, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Sunday June 2, 2024, from 2:00 Pm – 6:00 Pm in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th St, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held the next day, Monday June 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM, in Hahn Funeral Home with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery, with military rights conducted by the VFW/ American Legion Burial Squad.
