DAVID R. CLEMENTS

Jan. 16, 1939 - June 7, 2013
SOUTH BEND - David R. Clements Jr., 74, residing in South Bend, passed away at 3:25 pm Friday, June 7, 2013, in Fountainview Golden Living Center, Mishawaka. He was born in Dayton, OH, on January 16, 1939, to the late David R. and Bessie M. (Brewster) Clements, Sr.

He was also preceded in death by his son, David R. Clements III.

David graduated from Washington-Clay High School in 1957. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Upon his return to South Bend on August 28, 1965, he married the former Wanda L. Scherer, who survives. He is also survived by four grandchildren including Patrick Clements, USMC, and Jennifer (Dan) Clements-Schulte; three great- grandchildren; and two sisters, Patricia Metz of South Bend and Barbara (Bill) Hawkins of Schenectady, NY.

David retired as a stockman for Coachmen Industries. He formerly worked at Rockwell Standard, Studebaker and Bendix proving grounds, Cloud Brothers, Georgie Boy, Border Dairy and Rand Delivery, as well as Independent Life Insurance and Western Southern Life Insurance Claims. David was a 30-year usher at Notre Dame and particularly enjoyed Notre Dame ice hockey. He was a member of the South Bend Eagles bowling team and a Boy Scout leader, where he earned the One Mile Certificate in 1987. He also belonged to Roller Hockey teams at Skate A Rama in Niles, MI, Rainbow Roller Rink in Mishawaka and New Buffalo Roller Rink. David earned the Roller Hockey Best Defenseman Award in 1972 and the Ball Hockey Regional Medal in 1982. David's hobbies included photography, reading the newspaper sports pages and listening to the radio.

There will be no public services. Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements. A private burial service will be held at a later date in the National Veterans Cemetery in Marion, IN. The family would like to thank friends and relatives for all the prayers and cards during David's illness. God Bless Everyone.
