Margaret Lucile Abel, better known as Peggy, died in her sleep on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Rye, New York, where she had been living for the past two years. Peggy suffered for over thirteen years from a rare degenerative neurological disease, which left her in a wheelchair, unable to move on her own. She was 75.

Born to Margaret Flynn Shearman and James Arthur Shearman on March 11, 1939 in Paris, Ohio, Peggy was the youngest of seven children. The family moved to South Bend, Indiana where Peg attended Darden School and Washington Clay High School class of '57 where she was the editor of the Minutemen Yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society, Class Officer and Debate Club Sectional Finalist. Additionally, Peggy was a member of the vocal trio, "Joy Bells" which took second place in the National Youth for Christ competition winning a scholarship for college. The trio recorded two singles.

During her senior year in high school, Peggy met and fell in love with her husband of 54 years, Frederick Charles Abel, Sr. Since Fred was graduating from the University of Notre Dame, Peggy decided to forgo college and the two were married on February 22, 1958. Thus began many adventures in life. They were a true partnership, perfect compliments to each other, and they shared every aspect of their lives. Peggy worked for the business they started for over 30 years and they travelled around the world together until her disease made it too difficult.
