Jack D. Melton

Jack D. Melton passed away at 4:30 a.m. on May 25, 2012 in his home. He was
surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born in Columbia City, IN to Laura and Yeaman Melton. His parents and
his brother Robert preceded him in death. He is survived by his sister, Gloria
Pertics of South Bend.
He graduated from Washington Clay High School in 1950.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1954 on the USS
Franklin D. Roosevelt. He had many stories from his Navy days that he loved to
share.
On June 28, 1958, he married Therese Heinerich, who passed away on July 22,
2009. They were married 51 years. He is now with the love of his life in heaven.
He retired from Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in 1992.
He thoroughly enjoyed his retirement for 20 years.
He is survived by his children, Vicki (Randy) Candler, Cheryl (Butch) Benn and
Joe (Terese) Melton; his grandchildren, Steven Melton, Nicole, Jonathan and
Andrew Candler, Nicholas Benn and stepgranddaughter, Jocelyn Manuszak. He was
preceded in death by a stepgrandson, Jake Manuszak.
He was blessed to also have in his life, his dear friend and companion, Joan
Brown. Thank you for making him smile.
Jack enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful pieces over the years that we
will treasure. He enjoyed family vacations, dinners with family, golfing and
travels with his wife. He enjoyed watching sports on TV, being in his yard and
going to the casino. We will always be grateful for all his advice and wisdom he
shared with us over the years. We will miss his optimism and unconditional love
he gave to us all. He was the best Dad we could of ever asked for. He would of
done anything for his family, neighbors and friends. He was truly a special man.
We were so blessed to have him for our Dad.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 28, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, IN. A Funeral
Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Graveside services
will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 in St. Joseph Valley
Memorial Park, Granger, IN.
