NORMA J. (THOMPSON) NELSON

Norma Jean Nelson, 89, of Mishawaka, Indiana passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, August 28, 2022. She was born in Teegarden, Indiana on September 28, 1932 to Richard and Glenna Thompson.

Norma Jean lived all of her life in northern Indiana, graduating from Washington-Clay High School in 1950. She also attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois.

She married her high school sweetheart, Walter Trowbridge, in 1952. They would have two children, Craig and Ann. Walter would go home to be with his Lord in 1997. She was active in her church, playing the piano and organ at Bertrand Bible Church (Niles) and then Calvary Baptist Church (South Bend). She was an avid Notre Dame fan, attending women s basketball games for many years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. In 2004 she married an old family friend, Charles Nelson.

She is survived by her husband: Charles, her children: Ann (Tim) Divine and Craig (Charlene) Trowbridge, her step-children: Mark (Deborah) Nelson, Diana Coniglio and Janice Nelson, and her sisters: Gloria (Gail) Humbles and Jerilyn Johnson. As well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Norma Jean is preceded in death by her parents: Richard and Glenna Thompson, her first husband :Walter Trowbridge and her step-son: Philip Nelson.

A memorial service will be held by the family at Calvary Baptist Church, 3001 W Cleveland Road, South Bend, Indiana on Friday, September 2, 2022. Visitation will be from 6:00pm-7:00pm with the memorial service to follow at 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer s Association..
