NILES - Dorothy Vargo Brant, 82, of Niles, MI, passed away Sunday evening, April 26, in Regency Place of South Bend. She was born June 9, 1926, in South Bend, to Clarence Howard and Josephine (Winrot) Ryan. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Doris Kulczar, and brother, Jack Ryan. On June 9, 1945, in South Bend, she married Albert Vargo, who died in 1973. On November 20, 1974, in Niles, MI, she married Charles M. Brant, who died in 1988.

She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Earl King of Niles. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Becky Myers (Clarence) of Mishawaka; stepdaughters, Vera N. Kuhl (Jerry) of Arlington, TX, and Kay Stephens (Terry) of Niles; sons, Tony Vargo (Linda) of South Bend, Joe Vargo (Leslie) of Dowagiac, MI, and Mark Vargo (Jennifer) of Mishawaka; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Ryan and Clarence Ryan (Pat) of South Bend.

Dorothy started her working career at the Economy Chop Suey restaurant in South Bend and later at the Happy House in Niles which she worked for over 40 years. She graduated from Washington Clay high school and was a member of the VFW Post 624 Ladies Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 30th, with Rev. Neil Wack, C.S.C., pastor of Christ the King Catholic Church where she was a member officiating, with burial following at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. today in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 17033 Cleveland Road. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes contributions be made to Southern Care Hospice, 310 W.
