Rebekah M. Sebasty

August 9, 1933 – September 22, 2022

Rebekah "Becky" M. Sebasty, 89, of New Carlisle, IN passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Hamilton Grove Retirement Community. She was born on August 9, 1933 in Lawrence, MI to the late Bernard S. Serene and Edna R. (Johnson) Serene. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Leslie N. Sebasty Jr., daughter, Belinda K. Russell, and sister, Sherlyn Glee Parker.

Becky was a 1951 graduate of Washington Clay High School in South Bend, IN. On April 22, 1953, she married Leslie Sebasty at Maple Lane United Methodist Church in South Bend. They eventually settled and started a dairy farm on Chicago Trail in New Carlisle. They lived there for the next 60+ years. In 2014, Becky & Les celebrated 61 years in marriage. Les passed away later that winter, on December 1st.

Becky loved on and was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of Lydick United Methodist Church in Lydick, IN and later with Calvary Baptist Church in South Bend. She served in Children’s ministry at Lydick, and deaconess and Stephen’s Ministry with Calvary Baptist. Becky was an avid gardener, seamstress and loved to cook & bake for her family and friends. She enjoyed golfing for many years in addition to cross-country skiing. She loved taking pictures and always had her camera nearby. She was a member of the WHC Ladies Club for more than 55 years. Becky sold Avon products for over 31 years. She worked in retail at Ankersens Clothing Store, Watson’s Collectibles and The Village Shops in New Carlisle for over 18 years.

Becky is survived by her daughter, Susan (Alan) Markley of New Carlisle; son, Wayne (Shauna) Sebasty of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren, Nicole Russell, Sarah (Paul) Kerridge, Benjamin (Jerrica) Markley, Evan Sebasty, Julia Serene Sebasty; six great grandchildren, Coleson, Caspian, Callum, Freya, Bentley Serene, and Carter.

Public visitation will be from 2 - 5 PM EST, Sunday, September 25, 2022, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle, IN. Private family funeral services will follow the public visitation. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
