ALAN FASSLER OBITUARY

Dec. 12, 1951 - Oct. 3, 2012
MISHAWAKA - Al Fassler, 60, of Mishawaka, passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2012. He was born on December 12,1951 in Oak Lawn, Illinois to William and Shirley (Blakemore) Fassler.

Surviving is his mother, Shirley (Blakemore) Fassler; two daughters, Andrea Fassler of Chicago, Illinois and Jennifer (Nicholas) Pawlak of Newman, Georgia; and two grandchildren, Grace Pawlak and Blair Pawlak. Also surviving is his former wife, Linda Fassler; his sister, Nancy (Phil) Patterson; and two brothers, Gregory Fassler and William (Vicki) Fassler, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, William Fassler, nephew, Matthew Patterson and first child, Jessica Lynn Fassler, who passed away as an infant.

Al was a 1969 graduate of Clay High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969-1971. He graduated from Ivy Tech with an associate's degree in Graphic Design. He was currently employed with Lithotone Inc. of Elkhart as director of Prepress. He was co-owner of the company and on the board of directors.

His life was always an adventure and full of success. In his early years he enjoyed camping, fishing, karate, white water kayaking, nature and photography. He later grew a passion for downhill and cross country skiing, mountain and road biking, nutrition and fitness (Kettlebells). With all that he conquered, his mission wasn't complete. At the age of 60, he discovered his new found love on the ice and became a member of the South Bend Senior Hockey Team. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help a friend or stranger in need. His smile and laughter, alone, would light up a room. He was a one of a kind, strong, hilarious, smart, fun loving, caring, giving and overall amazing man. He was a super hero. He will be greatly missed by every single life he touched.

"Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God laid for me. I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all. I could not stay another day, to laugh, To love, to work or play. I've found that peace at the close of day. If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, ah yes, these things I too miss. Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.

A memorial service will be held today, Saturday, Oct. 6th at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, Indiana from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lance Armstrong Foundation (www.livestrong.org).
