Lois E. Kaniewski July 9, 1924 - Aug. 25, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Lois E. Kaniewski, 90, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Monday, August 25th, at Sterling House. She was born July 9, 1924, in South Bend, to the late Charles and Viola (Huss) Wilson.

On June 8, 1946, in South Bend, she married the late Eugene Kaniewski.

She is survived by a daughter, Karen Ryback (Scott) of South Bend; sons, Larry (Christie), Keith (Sandy), Gregg (Louise) of South Bend and Scott (Stacey) of Chicago, Illinois; 10 grandchildren, Casey, Justin and Jeremy Ryback, Amy Higgins (Grant), Gene Drake (Elizabeth), Kristen Causey (Danny), Lisa, Natasha, Connor and Liza; seven great-grandchildren; her brothers, William Wilson (Barbara) of Granger and Kenneth Wilson of Minnetonka, MN.

Predeceased is Lorraine Manning (Thomas), sister of Eugene.

Lois graduated from South Bend Washington Clay High School and nursing school in Lincoln, Nebraska. She retired after 40 years of service as a Registered Nurse at the St. Joseph Medical Center and was a member of its Nurses Alumni Association. Lois traveled extensively with her husband, Eugene, with the 339th Fighter Group Association who was stationed in England during World War II.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 29th, at St Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Rd., Granger. Committal service and burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 till 7:00 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 5:00 p.m. at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., and one hour prior to the Mass on Friday in the church. The family would like to thank Cheryl, Nan and all the caregivers at Interim.
